FORMULA STUDENT
Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is an annual design competition for students, which takes place in different international locations.The events of Formula Student on tracks like Silverstone Circuit, Hockenheimring or Ferrari Fiorano Racetrack are the European answer to the US American version of Formula SAE.

More than 300 talented students from universities around the world travel to these competitions to demonstrate their knowledge. The idea behind Formula Student is to launch a fictitious enterprise that designs a single?seated racing car. Each team has to build a prototype conforming to the Formula Student rules. Innovation, creativity and construction at optimal cost are judged in the static competitions. The dynamic tasks Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross and Endurance provide information about the cars technical capabilities.

TEAM | ACHIEVEMENTS
Our team consists of 3rd year Vehicle Technology students of the University of Applied Sciences Graz and participates in the European and also sometimes in the American competitions since 2003. The team of joanneum racing graz has been successful right from the start: The team won the marketing competition at their first attempt in 2003. The biggest success so far was celebrated in 2006 at Formula SAE Italy when the joanneum racing graz team was the OVERALL WINNER with wins in the Skid Pad, Presentation and Endurance?Economy events. This track record continued in 2007 with a win in Acceleration and Skid Pad in Silverstone and a 3rd place overall in Hockenheim. 2008 was a good year as well, because the team was successful in the Engineering? Design event and placed 3rd overall again in Silverstone. They were also able to demonstrate their technical abilities in Hockenheim by finishing 3rd in the Engineering?Design event and receiving the Best?Drivetrain?Award. In June 2009 the team around the jr09 won the prize for the “Most Professionally Operated Team”, which was awarded by BrawnGP. This team showed their competence in the dynamic events and finished among the Top 10 in Autocross in Italy. What all these results proove is that the team of joanneum racing graz is one of the topteams in Formula Student and is regarded as one of the favorites for the upcoming season.
